Abdominal Hysterectomy for Benign Gynecological Diseases

OBJECTIVES This study aims to assess the Pap smear screening method’s accuracy in detecting precancerous lesions. METHODOLOGY After fulfilling inclusion criteria patients were selected, patient’s bladder was emptied and put a dorsal position, Cusco’s speculum introduced after lubrication followed by insertion of Ayer’s spatula, applied on transformational zone, rotated 360 degrees. Specimen smeared glass slides sent laboratory with fulfilled lab pre-requisite form. Patients requested follow up histopathology report. RESULTS Mean age patient 38.111+9.461 years. Among 77 whose samples taken 15.4% asymptomatic, 32.1% vaginal discharge, 17.9% discharge,17.0% intermenstrual bleeding 16.7% having lower abdominal pain p value=0.087. Histopathology reports interpreted upon follow-up visit among those 1.3% came out be positive for malignancy, 76.6% negative malignancy while 22.1% had an inadequate sample. CONCLUSION The most common method cervical cancer is smear, but its efficacy early lesions very low, possibly due error or false technique gynecologist sample our tertiary care hospital. Other methods should used instead conventional smear.
